Economy:
Historically, agriculture and timber was the most important part of the Rogue Valley economy. In recent years, however, the economy has shifted away from those industries and is now driven by the healthcare industry. The two largest hospitals in the region, Rogue Valley Medical Center and Providence Medford Medical Center, employ around 2,000 people. The Rogue Valley is also a popular retirement destination, which has resulted in large increases in the assisted living and senior services fields. Recently, the wine industry has enjoyed a lot of success in Southern Oregon. There are many successful wineries and wine labels in the area.

Lone Pine Elementary:
In my community, we are lucky enough to have an outstanding elementary school named Lone Pine. My son is currently a student first grader there, and I am a volunteer for his classroom and the Peer Mediation Program. Their motto is, "As a Lone Pine community, we are dedicated to creating and building upon a successful, educational foundation, while encouraging students to be safe, responsible, and respectful".

"Education is the great engine to personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that the child of a farm worker can become the president of a great nation," ~ Nelson Mandela
